Dhawan made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Australia in October 2010 at Visakhapatnam. His Test debut came against the same opposition in March 2013 at Mohali where he scored the fastest century by any batsman on Test debut and ended his innings with 187 runs from 174 balls.
In December 2017, he became the 2nd fastest Indian to reach 4000 ODI runs. During the 4th ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg, he became the first Indian and ninth overall to score a century in his 100th ODI game.
This much is sufficient to determine his proficiency and success. However, his cricketing ability is not the only thing that makes him popular but his wife, Ayesha Mukherjee, as well.
The Love Story...
Ayesha is an Anglo-Indian as her father is Indian and mother is of English descent. She was born in India, but her family soon moved to Australia. A trained kickboxer and a sports fanatic, fluent in Bengali and English, who enjoys cooking Indian food.
At times, some decisions we make are not so right, sometimes life kicks us hard before it pampers us (Just a way to make sure that deserve the best). She was once married to an Australian businessman but got divorced. She had two daughters from her first marriage, Rhea, and Aliyah.
The digital world has changed the way we used to operate. A similar thing happened to Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee. Cricketer Harbhajan Singh was a mutual friend between Shikhar and Ayesha on Facebook.
Shikhar came across Ayesha's profile and was bowled over by her looks instantly. Sent her a friend request which she accepted. Long Facebook conversations led to a budding friendship, and as they say, friendship is the first step to love.
The couple got engaged back in 2009, but Shikhar insisted on waiting for a while before they tied the knot. He first wanted to establish himself as a successful cricketer of the Indian cricket team. Finally, the couple got hitched in 2012. Ayesha is almost ten years older than Shikhar, and already had two daughters from her previous broken marriage. In this conventional society, this was not easily digested. There were many questions that were raised on their unification, but, Shikhar's mother was very supportive of this match.
Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee had a traditional Sikh wedding, which was attended by many cricketers including Virat Kohli, who was seen dancing merrily in the baraat.
Even though Ayesha has to travel back and forth between Melbourne and India, you can see her in the stands, supporting her husband.
Love is so akin water, it finds its ways through creeks and pores and always finds its destination. All we need to do is to trust the journey.
