Punjabi Weddings are known to be the most exciting ones. It includes full zest. People do every arrangement and have the next level excitement . Punjabis are believed to be always excited then how can they not be excited when a wedding season is on their doors! They put their energy and efforts in everything ,be it shopping, managing the things, dancing to the beats, singing or eating ! North Indian cuisine is the most favourite of all. If you're going to a punjabi wedding then do not worry about the food , your palates will satisfy. Talking about the rituals, it includes Rokka which is a pre engagement or unofficial engagement ceremony followed by Mangni which is the engagement. The bride's family visits the groom's family for the ceremony with gifts after that sagai or tikka takes place. Dholki/sangeet is there after sagai in which a lot of singing and dancing is there. Dholak,drums,dj and what not ! Mehendi is another important function which all of us know about . These were some of the pre wedding traditions.
There are various rituals performed at bride's as well as groom's place. At bride's house rituals like Chura,Maiyan,Haldi,Ghara Gharoli and Jaggo take place. Rituals like Sarbala,Sehra,Varna and Ghori Chadna are performed at the groom's house. These all includes a lot of ardour and enthusiasm. Rituals before phere also play an important role. Milni includes the introduction or the meeting of the families of the bride and the groom and they exchange garlands and gifts(Shagun). Jaimala or Varmala is done on the podium with exchange of varmalas followed by kanyadan and phere .In Sikh weddings, the bride and the groom walk around the Guru Granth Sahib four times, called laavan which shows their conformation that they have accepted each other. Whole wedding consists a lot of rituals and ceremonies but the excitement doesn't fade . Punjabi weddings are indeed the best!
