Sometimes, immature love is the most mature form of love.
Shah Rukh was just 18 when he first met Gauri at a party in Delhi, even before he became an actor.
A beautiful girl dancing on the floor caught his attention and despite being a shy guy, approached her for a dance. This was their first meeting and soon, the two started dating. But Shah Rukh was a possessive boyfriend.
In an interview, he said, "I don't know whether I am a nut but I am very intense about my love for Gauri. She's a part of me."
Shah Rukh's possessiveness sometimes infuriated Gauri. She decided to give their relationship a break and left for Mumbai without telling him. Shah Rukh went to Mumbai, searching her and the moment they met, they hugged cried. This was the time they got to know that, they were in love.
Shah Rukh revealed on a T.V show, unlike his romantic on-screen persona, he popped the proposal in the most unusual manner. "I had a Fiat back then and I was dropping her home. That is when I asked her if she will marry me and went off, I didn't even wait for her reply". It was a 'yes' from Gauri. But being a Hindu (and Shah Rukh a Muslim), their union faced problems, particularly from Gauri’s family.
In an interview years later, this is what Gauri said about her parents' reaction, "Yes, my parents were obviously not ready for it because we were so young then to take a decision to get married to a person who was going to join films and also from a different religion."
But when was love confined by religions and boundaries, the love triumphed and after much effort, the couple was blessed by Gauri’s family too. Shah Rukh and Gauri dated for around five years before finally getting married on October 25, 1991.
Today, this is one amongst the most successful and ideal couples of Bollywood.
